The story of the Children’s libraries

While the Counselling training was underway, it was time to begin the children’s libraries. Dina scoured Kathmandu for the first site of the library and found the perfect place in Patan/Lalitpur district. This area was once an independent city state of its own, it is now part of the Kathmandu city sprawl. The library was opened in 2021 and soon became a popular place for local school children to visit after school; reading books, playing games and joining in the many activities run by the librarians. Special events are planned such as Christmas parties and Holi celebrations.

In 2022, MRZ opened its second library in the area of Banepa. Again this book and game filled library was soon filled with local children and their families.

In 2024, we plan to open our third children’s library. This one will be located in the Nepal district of Lumbini approximately 600 kilometres from Kathmandu. The idea for this library came from Manoj, a participant in one of the first counselling training programs. He will be working in a newly built school and wanted to be able to offer a library. This partnership between the school and MRZ is a new and exciting one.
